Good News! UV LED can kill 99.9% of coronavirus in 30 seconds

Recently, Seoul Viosys and SETi announced that Violeds UV LED technology successfully killed 99.9% of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) in 30 seconds.

According to the news, the research team of Seoul Visteon and Korea University conducted tests using the Violeds compound semiconductor technology that is in mass production.

This study used Violeds technology to demonstrate the strong bactericidal effect of the Violeds UV LED light source after irradiating the new coronavirus for 30 seconds. The study also found that if the coronavirus is placed closer to the light source and the irradiation time is extended, the sterilization effect will be stronger. In addition to testing coronavirus, the research team also proved that Violeds technology can achieve 99.9% sterilization rate of harmful bacteria such as E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Salmonella typhimurium.

According to reports, Seoul Visteon and SETi have jointly developed Violeds UV LED technology since 2005. The technology has been used to clean the environment of astronauts in the NASA space station.

Seoul Weishi pointed out that because the product cycle is too short to be used for a long time, the widespread commercial application of UV LEDs has been limited. However, since 2019, the new patented technology has extended the previous service life by 50,000 hours, making it the best solution for air purification and water sterilization products at this stage. The company said it will soon provide efficient air coronavirus sterilization solutions and surface sterilization solutions for masks and smartphones.

According to LEDinside, at the beginning of last month, Seoul Visteon announced that as new coronaviruses continue to spread globally, Violeds UV LED product customer consultation volume has increased more than five times over the previous month. In addition, the company is already working with many automotive companies to evaluate solutions that use UVC LEDs for sterilization in vehicles.
